TUFTS UNIVERSITY, BLAKELEY HALL
Medford, Massachusetts
The Blakeley Hall project involved a full gut/ renovation of a 29,000 SF 3-story residence hall originally built in 1926. The scope of work included new bedrooms, bathrooms, and lounges to house 120 undergraduate students. The new MEP systems were designed to support the University’s decarbonization goals. These new systems utilize central plant steam and are outfitted with capability to connect to future use central plant utilities, including chilled water and low temp hot water. The building envelope was rehabilitated and new windows installed to improve the building’s overall performance. The new systems target an Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of 50kBTU/SF or less. A new elevator was installed to deliver full accessibility and code compliance. DiMella Shaffer was the project architect.
“Your project manager and superintendent took care to develop a plan on how to execute the project, and they worked that plan. It was clear that they were our active partner in making this project a success! I look forward to working with Bowdoin again.”
