Millbrook Lofts Celebrates Ribbon Cutting
June 2016
SOMERVILLE, MA
The Millbrook Lofts ribbon cutting was celebrated on Wednesday, June 22nd for this eight story, 100-unit apartment building in Somerville, MA. Bowdoin worked with Berkeley Investments and BH+A architects for all base building work for this complex conversion of what was previously a century old cold-storage building. The project included demolition of existing brick veneer system, removal of masonry infill to create window openings, saw-cutting for new stair and elevator shafts, and structural steel seismic upgrades supported by a new micropile foundation system. Construction included extensive dewatering, due to the high water table and significant structural concrete repair work was required due to the conditions of the 100-year old building. The project also included a one-story structural steel penthouse addition, two new elevators, and installation of a green roofing system. The façade is constructed of new LGMF and insulated metal panel system. The completed facility is LEED Gold Certified.
