Bowdoin Construction was retained to manage the expansion and renovation of one of New England’s premier retirement communities. The project increased the bed quota by 12 from 60 to 72 beds and reclassified all beds to Level II. The addition also provided for 1 isolation, 5 private and 3 semi-private rooms as well as a new nurses’ station and a 72-seat dining room. The dining room featured a central fireplace, multi-windowed dining bays and a private dining room with wood and glass doors. Below the health center, two floors of administrative and support spaces were reorganized to create new areas for administrative offices, laundry, storage and maintenance, waste control, employee locker/lounge areas and a new beauty shop. Outside, covered pavilions were constructed to permit all health care residents to walk about or sit in the fresh air while protected from
the elements. Decorative ironwork fences set against brick piers serve as an effective control barrier for patients who may
wander. |
